Thoughts on Deviantart

Now I haven't been around here since my last journal about leaving this site, but I came back to check my +watches (out of a creative block) and noticed nothing has changed. The same sort of cultures dominating over this site (that made me leave in the first place) have literally /not changed/. Not art style, nothing. The same old stuff litters the front page

I really would like deviantart to get out of it's hole and actually equally embrace all cultures and art styles. It seems this is just a breeding hole for otaku wapanese, and all other art is popular only in the extremes.

Now yes, call me hypocritical for spacing myself from the wapanese (I'd say only a year ago I was trying my hardest to imitate the style). But no, I'm not putting down the manga/anime style. That stuff isn't going to die off anytime soon, and it is a fun style to use (and look at, frankly). The only problem here is that other styles of art aren't getting the love and in fact, aren't even showing up on deviantart.
Stuff like indie photography, graphic design, and apparel (and more) are things I'd love to see up on this site, but I have to go to other blogs to see them.

Deviant art is a fantastic site, albeit it's many quirks. It's the easiest and most social way of sharing art around. I'd hate to see it become manga-art.com. It's meant to be a multi-culture, multi-style art website. Why can't it be that way.

And so in spirit of my own opinion, I've decided to make a return to the site. I'll post my art as often as it happens. I just hope that more other artists of several different or ecletic tastes will begin to use this site.
